Today was my last day on Long Island with the American family. I was up early, and sat on the porch reading Les Miserables. For breakfast we went into town, and they let me try another traditional American food. I had my first bagel. This one was a breakfast bagel, with eggs and bacon inside. It was so filling! Very cool that you can order any type of meal an put it in a bagel, I think.
I also got the chance to snoop at Jake's new drama books. Jake is their 18-year old son, who has just started has first year of college doing film and acting. There were some amazing books on his curriculum, so I was thrilled being allowed to have a look in them.
Sarah was going back to Washington D.C., where she now lives, so I took the train back to the city with her this afternoon.
She told me all about the place, and really inspired me to come visit! This is also where some off my cousins from my dad's side of the family lives, so I will definitely go there one day soon :)
Sarah has worked in Disney world in Florida!! She gave me the audition guidelines to becoming a Disney Princess there, suddenly making it seem very realistic. My dream is to be Belle, but you all know that <3
Tickets to Florida from here, is like tickets to London from Copenhagen!
When I returned back home, I was pretty tired and had a bit of a melancholic feeling from leaving the people I know the best in the state. Back in the reception I met Jessica, who was one of the first people I communicated with about the residence and she gave me all the help I needed concerning my room. She is really nice and helpful, and we had our dinner together at the residence.
I got a chance to put away all of my 4 suitcases for storage in the basement, so no worry about them taking up all the space in my wardrobe, mumsi <3
I had a spontaneous idea today. To follow up on the difficulty I had returning to the big city alone, I decided that I needed to spend my evening amongst the things that brought me here. So that I would quickly get high on the city, not wanting to be anywhere else in the world.
After a quick decision and a purse in my hand, I rushed out the door, heading for the subway to Times Square. I wanted to see how the ticket office worked with lastminute discounts.
When I got to Times Square I felt the rush that I loved, and I felt excited about the fact that the sun had almost set, meaning I would get the full night view of all the lights in the square before long.
Seriously, there was ONE person in the line to the ticket's office, only 30 minutes before the show! Usually there'd be a 20 meter long line! Anyways, even though my hopes were up - I know I built up the story for you - I didn't manage to get a ticket.
They had lots of tickets, but then I'd have to give $75 for the show. Had I been a tourist soon returning home to work and pay off for all my spendings, I would've taken it, no doubt! But my limit was $50, still needing to be realistic about my economy. The ticket guy was like "No we don't have anything for 50 or below at all, we're growing!"... well of course musical theatre is growing, that's why I love it so much, but my pocket isn't.
However, I'd received a gift card to Starbucks from the Wittenberg's with 25 dollars on it! So what I did was to order a chai tea latte (much for my - still coughing - throats joy!) and found a seat in the middle of Times Square.
- To those of you who haven't been to New York, there's a huge pathway on Times Square, where they've closed for cars. So there's a great spot with chairs and tables, where you can sit and have a break from all the walking, people-watch, Disney-figure - or naked-dancing-girls-watch or just enjoy your Starbucks. So that's what I did.
Instead of seeing a Broadway show inside the buildings, I finally saw Times Square by night from the outside!
Yep! she was ALL naked.
They even painted the next one in front of everyone at the square!
As I was walking the street casually just breathing in the atmosphere, these tourists asked me for help with directions. Even though I wasn't of much help, because I couldn't quite give them the specific directions to Empire State Building, I definitely felt a huge compliment. Because that meant that I didn't just look like a confused tourist, they thought I was 'someone from the hood'. So maybe it hasn't taken me that long to look like a New Yorker.
...But what I really think, is that the sunglasses did most of the job!.. ;) Do you remember I found them, and said I would look cool wearing them on the streets of Manhattan?

And hey dad, here's your picture of me in front of the American flag, like you imagined. I'll get you a better one soon! X
...So now I'm back very glad and comfortable. I do have a nice room. My shower is working! I got some hangers, so all my clothes is out and up now. I'm drooling over my view and listening to Adele.
But it's a musical theatre celebration night, because that's what'll cheer me up the most - so in a minute, I'll get comfortable in my bed and put on a musical.
Tomorrow I know I'll feel better, because I've recovered a lot today already. I plan to either see Little Italy and Chinatown, Coney Island, Harlem or do my own sightseeing of all the theaters, dance and drama companies and schools.
I can't wait to tell you all about it by the end of the day tomorrow! X
Was that a glimpse of Spiderman I caught there in one of the photos. Oh my! Now I really know you're in the US!
ReplyDeleteLooking much forward to the next chapter in this adventure!
