Day 1! part 2

It's funny how you always lay such a great focus on your first day in a new place. You plan out all the places you prioritize to see first, since everything could never be seen in one day. It's the first impressions that count.
I usually plan out a day in the city to the last bit. EVERYTHING must be seen, and I should never feel like I've missed out on anything.

But today I wasn't a tourist, I was slowly, but intensely getting to know my new home. I've seen so many things today, but far form it all.
I went to visit my school! I had lunch by the bay, overlooking the Statue of Liberty. And when I finally came to Times Square, I sat down just starring at the massive centre for 20 minutes. Amazed by all the shining lights from the musicals (and can you believe it; I've already made it to the big screens! .... as an ensemble member, but next time I might just stand in the long line to get my personal photo up there! :p Next time I'll go for a Rodger's & Hammerstein musical, rather than the Bollywood musical - but oh well, I already see a fan waving!).

So I had a Starbucks, took the subway and drooled over the Disney store - I loved it all, so maybe I'm not that far from being a true 'New Yorker'.

YUPEEE!! What an honor!

I've found the floating lights!, at the Disney store.

American subway!

So I finally found my little part of freedom!

But as I dragged myself home after a long day, quite poor-looking from the fever and the bad flu, I also felt that this city takes your energy as fast as you give it.
I suddenly thought to myself, if I would ever truly relax in a city so bussing. No forests, no quite sideways.
But as I turned down to 13th street, I realized I had already found the place!
When I had walked out the door this morning, I was so eager to find the buzz, that I forgot to experience my own street.
It's the perfect little street with low trees on both sides, apartments with the stairs outside (like I wrote about earlier), beautiful small houses with a mini garden facing the street, cute little restaurants and small residences.
It really is perfect.

And without having seen all the places in New York yet, I think I have already found my favorite spot of them all.
Just a set of stairs up from my floor is a huge terrace on the attic. You can see the whole city from a north and south side. You can see everything, and feel the buzzing of all the streets, yet by sitting on the most peaceful spot of the city, grabbing it all at once.
And here I am, watching the sun set over the Hudson river.
And the strange thing about this place is that I've never seen anybody else than me, in all the times I've been up here.
It's like this was served for me, with my name on it.

Just a 10th part of the view from my roof top
